Hi! I'm Vanessa... and this is my quilting/crafting/sewing blog. Somehow, I got started down the path of fabric, batting, fusible fleece, pattern, thread, and other necessary misc. acquisition when I was 18/19 years old. I'd always dabbled with sewing off & on growing up~ but nothing serious. On a summer break when I was home from college, I decided that I would learn to quilt. I've always admired the handiwork that goes into quilting & wanted to try it. Well, since I didn't have anyone to teach me, I had to rely on my old mantra--> If I can read it, I can figure it out.
That's a *lot* easier said than done with some patterns! Either way, it opened a door of creativity for me that I wouldn't trade for anything. Well, truth be told, I might be tempted to sell out & trade some of it for a newer model Bernina. But regardless... the joy it's brought to me to create is something that can't be re-created. Plus, I love that my creations have brought joy to others. I've never made any quilts for sale or profit... and I highly doubt that I ever will. It's a "pay it forward" activity for me. My 9-5, M-F job doesn't afford me to be overly philanthropic with charity donations~ but my ability to create does. To date, I've only done one quilt directly for charity-- Quilts for Kids is amazing-- and I plan to do more. Such a good feeling to know I could help others.
Charity & giving start at home. It's just good to give period. Be it friends, family, co-workers... you name it. Quilting, for me, isn't about the end product being perfect & show-quality... it's about the love put into the creation & the stories that come about during construction. (Because there are *always* stories from construction...)
The purpose of my blog is for me to document my creations through the years so I have a record to look back upon... it also satisfies my love of writing... and what better to write about then something you love?!
